Exceptional Dental Laboratories

Written By Dr. Kyle Griffith

A high functioning dental laboratory is an essential complement to a dental office. What function does the dental laboratory play? How do they affect the ultimate results of treatment? Most folks don't know.

Let's be honest, dentistry is expensive. If I were a patient who needed a crown, I would certainly want a crown that was the best it could be. I wouldn't want to settle for "just ok." The team here at 58 Dental appreciates and understands this. That is why we only work with the best dental laboratories in Colorado.

The dental lab is usually behind the scenes and not talked about much. The purpose of this blog is to shed light on the degree to which dental laboratories significantly affect dental treatment.

Our dental patients demand high aesthetics in their crowns, bridges and implant restorations. But how a crown or bridge looks is only about a quarter of the story. The most essential element in fabricating restorations for patients is actually the fit, on a microscopic level, of the restoration to the tooth or implant. Additionally, the function of the restoration against the opposing teeth and how the restoration blends into the surrounding teeth, i.e., the aesthetics, is considered.

I have seen many dental crowns, bridges, and implant restorations that had they been fabricated well, the patient would not be experiencing current problems. What can go wrong you may ask? Here is a short list of some of the problems with poorly fabricated dental restorations:

1) A new cavity starts

2) An infection in the gums is created

3) Bone is lost around the tooth or implant

4) The jaw joint or jaw muscles become painful

As you can see, a dental laboratory is critical in making sure that the final results of treatment are exceptional. Without an outstanding dental lab, a dental office will perform poorly and attain less than excellent results.

If you are interested in the time, efforts, and detail that goes on behind the scenes at our dental laboratories, please don't hesitate to talk with the 58 Dental team. We are excited to have exceptional dental labs support us in our continued quest to provide outstanding treatment to our patients and we would be happy to share this knowledge with you.
