Invisalign® is known to most people as clear braces. With today's technology, you can have a beautiful smile without the need for traditional metal braces and wires. Many traditional orthodontic treatments can be accomplished successfully with Invisalign®.
Many patients ask, "How does Invisalign® work?" First, a simple set of impressions is taken of a patient's teeth. These impressions are then sent to the Invisalign® laboratory where a digital copy of the teeth is created. Then, the dentist and Invisalign® team create an individualized treatment plan.
Once this plan is verified, a series of trays are created. These clear trays will put light orthodontic forces on the teeth, slowly moving them over time. This basic principle of light forces slowly moving teeth over time is the foundation for traditional orthodontics and applies to Invisalign®, as well.
Invisalign® has several advantages over traditional orthodontics. The clear aligners are usually less of an aesthetic concern for patients compared to metal brackets and wires. I see Invisalign® appealing more to our adult population compared to children and teens.
An additional advantage is that the clear aligners are removable. This means that oral hygiene is easier for the patient and more often correctly performed than with traditional braces.
Invisalign® is a wonderful advancement and can provide many patients with a healthy and beautiful smile. If you live in the Denver area and are interested in Invisalign®, please contact 58 Dental to discuss an optimal orthodontic treatment plan.
