Your Mouth Matters (Part 1)

Written By Dr. Kyle Griffith

The discussions I have with my patients about how much their mouths matter are ongoing. The mouth is important for obvious reasons, but it also matters when it comes to your entire body. Don't forget that the mouth is the gateway to the body. Keep your mouth in shape, and it will help to keep your body healthy.

You might be wondering what it means to keep your mouth in shape. It means that you need to brush well with the right toothpaste for two minutes at least twice a day. You need to clean in between your teeth at least once a day. As Dr. Griffith writes in a previous blog entry, if you brush your teeth but don't do anything to clean between them; you are only cleaning about 60% of each tooth surface? That means you are doing about a halfway good job! You must use floss or another aid that gets in between adequately.

What's all the fuss about that part of the tooth that you can't see, you might ask? It's all about the bad bacteria that is alive and does quite well living in your mouth. Since bacteria are alive, they must feed on something, and that something is in your mouth. And whatever bacteria eat, they must excrete, which is done in your mouth as well. I know that sounds disgusting, but it's true. Stay tuned to our blog site for the rest of the story. For sure you will want to know more about this and learn how it relates to why your mouth matters! In the mean time - as always, come in and see us so we can be of help to you!
