Best Long-Term Teeth Whitening

What is the best long-term teeth whitening?  I get asked this question quite frequently from patients interested in a whiter, younger-looking, smile.

The simple answer is, whitening done with your dentist at their office, also known as in-office whitening, is the gold standard.  But to begin with, you need to know why a tooth looks dark to begin with.  Once this is understood, the answer becomes clear which whitening lasts the longest.

There are two types of staining that cause a tooth to look dark, intrinsic and extrinsic staining.  Extrinsic staining is the easiest of the two types of stain to remove.  Extrinsic staining consists of everything sitting on the surface of the tooth that is causing it to discolor.  Toothpastes, over-the-counter teeth whiteners, and dental cleanings easily get rid of extrinsic stain.

Intrinsic staining is the harder of the two to change.  Intrinsic staining is everything happening inside the tooth that is causing it to look dark or stained.  Intrinsic staining is best treated at your dentist’s office.  There are special applications that can be safely used to lighten the tooth and its internal structure.  This is how you get lasting results; by changing the internal dynamics of the tooth and therefore its natural color.

In-office whitening is the best option if you are looking for long-term teeth whitening.  It is safe and effective. Learn more about our Teeth Whitening services to see how we can enhance your smile with a brighter, whiter look.  We’ll help you create a smile you’re excited to show off.
