The price of dental implants is very confusing for patients. At 58 Dental in Denver, Colorado we get questions all the time from our dental family about implants and their cost.
Here’s a little secret I’m about to tell you:
There are all sorts of dental implant manufacturers, with various documented or undocumented results of various qualities, and of various corporate longevities. In short, do you know what you’re getting? Will the implant company still be around if the implant needs to be fixed in the future?
Just the other week, I worked with a patient who had a problem with an implant that was placed over 20 years ago. The problem was that the company was no longer in business. There is no fix. We can’t repair your implant. All because the implant was provided by a company that is “no longer around." The only alternative is to begin all over again.
Another problem that patients encounter is that they think they have a “Ferrari,” while instead they have a “Yugo.” I have no preference or objection to either of these cars, but the analogy is applicable. Patients sometimes mistakenly think that because their implant is relatively expensive that it must be high quality. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Patients are very disappointed to hear that their problems could have easily been avoided or resolved if a high quality option was chosen to begin with. So how on earth do you know if your getting the “Ferrari” or the “Yugo?” You have to ask!
Ask what type or brand of implant your current dentist is placing and then call around to other dental offices and see if they are placing the same type. You can call oral surgeons, periodontists, and even general dentists. You should find that after just a few calls, a couple of brands are repeatedly mentioned. These are most likely the implants that we would recommend placing and it is also a good sign that your surgeon is of high caliber too.
If you have any questions about implants, please don’t hesitate to contact 58 Dental in Denver, Colorado. We would be more than happy to speak with you about the confusing world of implants.
